  • USB Soundcard w/ RCA output

I am planning on running a laptop Carpc I have come up with what I think is a gameplan for the inital setup if you have a min check out my post here in the Newbie Proposed setup section. (any comments GREATLY APPRECIATED)

Anyway for the audio i plan on keeping the alpine deck I have in the car I have a aux RCA input so I was planning on finding a usb soundcard that had RCA line out to be able to feed right into the CD player...

    I came across this

    Gemini Ikey Audio USB Soundcard

I havent been able to dig up any mention of it on the forum (which leads me to belive there is some great fault in the product that im not seeing).. I was wondering if it would fit my needs? .. or if anyone had a alternative solution for me Im looking for the best possible audio signal out from my laptop into the Aux RCA input on my alpine deck.

thanks in advance ... hopefully soon Ill be able to join the proud ranks of car-pc owners...

it is very possible that no one has used it because it just doesn't fit their requirements

i have never heard of that brand, but i don't do much research beyond what i feel i need for my own install, so i might have missed it.

just a comment on the rca jacks sound cards-- do not let this limit your sound card selection-- rca jacks are only one type of audio jack, the other common one would be headphone jacks(3.5mm stereo jack output)-- these are easily adapted to each other, and you will not have any audio loss from adapting one to the other or the other way around...

Thanks for the reply... I have to search around and see what a popular choice is for external USB soundcards .... with the headphone type jacks does it typically split one jack to two rca outputs or is it two headphone types outputs to RCA? no loss in sound quality eh? hmm will have to look into some of those as they are far more common than this type with RCA outputs.

you will have to excuse my noobness .. havent gotten a lot of feedback as of yet on my proposed setup and im burning myself out with the ubundance of different opinions found using the search.

you would use a cable like this: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

and then just connect the rca's from the head unit to that, and you will be all set(for the audio portion at least).

i saw your build thread, but really didn't see any reason to post-- sjlucky covered most of it...

the question you have reguarding FE's, gps, and a dvd drive are mostly personal preferance-- i like ride runner, but just as many users like other front ends, so there is no wrong answer, just whatever works best for you(they all, at the very least have free trials, so give them a shot, and see what works).

for the dvd drive, i can see how it would be nice, but again, it is personal preferance-- some people use one, others just use a usb port mounted on the dash, others don't have anything mounted up on the dash..

the gps, i have one, but don't use it... i have a standalone magellen that i use instead...

as a general rule, try to find whatever works best for you, not for everyone else-- as long as you are the primary driver, you are the only one the system needs to please.

and you can always add things to a computer later, so don't feel overwhelmed by not having this or that feature from the start-- just get the basics covered right away, and go from there..
