  • radio wire color problem with 2004 ford taurus ses (big newb)

I am trying to hook up a RCA converter to my stock radio in my 2004 ford taurus ses so i can hook up my amp for my subwoofers.

i have found diagrams online for the radio wires but none of the wire colors match up to the actual wires in my car.

i was wondering if anyone knew exactly which ones i need to use

i have attached 2 pictures (1 pic from each side of the wire harness to show the wire colors i have)

hopefully someone out there can help me!

If you're talking about a converter that converts speaker-level outputs into RCA connections, then the usual place to splice that in is to the rear speakers, since they are usually easy to access from the trunk under the rear window shelf, and it's close to where you would be putting the amp.

This is assuming base audio system.

and they are already split up into pairs, and it is easier to determine + and - with a voltmeter, or by popping the speaker with a 9v...

otherwise, if you need to tap into the factory harness behind the radio, get a aftermarket harness adapter-- these are well worth the $15-- they will both have the correct color codes--both listed on them, or you can plug it into the factor harness, and the wires are labeled with its features, so you can just trace it back...

yes i need to tap it from the factory harness behind the radio...

so if i get something like Metra - Wiring Harness Adapter for Select Ford, Lincoln and Mercury Vehicles ( http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Metra+-+...ract_desc=null )

that would connect right to the existing harness and then i will be able to hook up those rca's to my amp

that harness is what i recommended, but it will not allow you to just attach the rca's to the factory harness..

i recommended that harness because i have never run into one with incorrect wiring, so you can use it for a guide for which wire to attach to. this will be much more accurate then any online guide for factory wiring color codes..

the harness is specifically made to allow you to plug a aftermarket radio into the factory harness--it's actual usage here doesn't apply, but you are after the wiring order that the adapter actually has.

but, like was stated before, the speaker wires that you need to attach to for the adapter are also easily available at the rear speaker terminals...

Hi and thanks for taking the time to post this pic, I am also looking at the same and wondering which wires are for the speakers.
I believe that I have found a good harness diagram with the same colors but only shows what pins 05, 10 and 20 are. The rest say not used for some reason.
I don't believe that the wires at the speaker end are the same color as the harness, meaning that they change colors somewhere along the line.
I am thinking of putting tone at the speaker end to listen for it at the harness (Telephone man)
This is all I can think of right now. If I interpreted your OP correctly you are looking for this type of information, and so am I. --> PIN 01 = wht/red - not used, PIN 02 = blu/wht - not used, etc...
all the way to 20 and this attached picture shows half of what I am looking for...
