  • What nice small cheap amp do you recommend?

I'm trying to do amp research and wonder if you guys can help me out. I need an amp that is small, cheap, and can do at least 80RMS per channel. I have 8 speakers, so I was thinking two 4 channel amps, and then one mono amp. Any recommendations would be nice!

I see a bunch of these 500 watt motorcycle amps on ebay. They say they do 500 watts, and do 75 RMS per channel. They are super small and I could just buy 4 of them (these are 2 channel amps). Then I could simply buy a normal mono amp.

Small enough to stack 3 of them up. What I need is two 4 channel amps, one mono amp. Then I have a small amp for the headphones, and an inverter. I then have a battery, and 10 inch sub woofer that also all have to go into the same area. I will get pictures of it so you can have an idea.

What do you have in mind?

Does your system produce 8 channels of sound? Chances are it does 4.1, so why not get one 4 channel amp or 2x2channel amps and wire the speakers in series? Just a thought...

Its a 7.1 surround sound system. Then has another speaker for phone. So a total of 9 speakers.

Basically my setup is complicated. Now that I am trying to finish, I'm getting cheap, lol..... Another idea could be to maybe have the amps on top of the enclosure. So they are exposed. That means I can go with bigger ones. That way only the inverter and small amp have to go on the inside. I would prefer it all hidden though....

Alpine PDX-5 is a 4 channel + mono block for pretty cheap. Pretty damn small too. I have one running my subs and midbass drivers.

I bet some of these will work.

They do 500watts peak and 75 RMS. The downside though is that there only 2 channel so you would have to get 4 of em. The up side is that I'm pretty sure you could save some space on the right side of the SUV by fitting all 4 of em inside of the 5 1/4 drive bays.

the pdx is exactly what i was thinking of. they are cea rated, so the power is guaranteed to be there, and they are stackable.

I have 2 of those 500 watt small amps coming from china. Shipped last week, so hopefully will be in in about 2-3 weeks to me. I'll have to report on how those are to ya. I got them off ebay, 2+shipped for like $26 so I figured what the hell...

have you decided on a sub yet? the box requirements for that might make a difference as well.

Well I was thinking of using a Alpine Type R 10" sub.

I rememeber that I use to use those mini amps and one thing I hated about them is that there was a lot of EMI so I had to use ground loop isolators. I think in this case I am going to have to suck it up and spend money on the PDX amps. What I like is that they are so small and they are digital so less heat. Didnt Alpin replace all their amps with new amps?
