  • How to set gains when using an EQ and an amp

I've just installed a Clarion EQ (EQS746) to use as an EQ & preamp and a SoundStream amp (PN4520D) along with some Rockford Fosgate P-165S components in the front and some Rockford Fosgate P-165 coaxials in the back.

The audio is coming from a 2012 Nexus 7 and I am using a Behringer UCA202 for a DAC.
I'm completely lost at the moment in trying to set them up and have a few questions.
    1. Should I plug the Nexus 7 into the Main In or the Aux In?
    2. If I use the Aux In on the EQ what should it's gain be set on?
    3. What should the amp gain be set on?
    4. What should the tablet volume be set on and what should the EQ volume be set on?
    5. Where can I find good information on how to set the EQ frequencies?

    Thanks for any help

I'm not well versed in the Nexus or Android setups, but I think you need to load a "Timur" ROM on the Nexus to support USB audio DACs, get the USB OTG cable and plug the DAC into it.

I suspect you will connect Line Out of the DAC to Line In on the EQ, Lines Out of the EQ to Line In on the amps, amp gains all the way down cause the EQS746 has higher than normal line outs levels.

Tablet volume 50% before tweaking the EQ, then EQ volume to your preference but fairly loud, leave amp gains all the way down for cleanest sound quality, and use the tablet as your master volume.

I've got Timur's ROM installed already

So would you hook the line in from the DAC into the 'AUX in' or the 'Main in' inputs on the EQ as the EQS746 has both?

So leave the gain on the amp down as low as it will go?

        Thanks for that
Sorry, I thought I had replied but it didn't post :?

Anyway, I'm running Timur's ROM already and have connected up to the 'Aux In' on the EQ and left the gains on the EQ set to the middle (where they came stock) and the amp gains to as low as they go.

I'm having a bit of trouble setting the EQ to make it sound good since it's mounted in the boot for starters (so it's not the easiest to set by ear) and I'm not too good on setting them.
Is there anything you could recommend to help me set it correctly?
