  • Overhead speaker system

Hey guys, I need your opinions.
I have 1997 Subaru Outback Sport, which is a compact wagon.
What I want to do is to add speaker somewhere in the rear. (Currently my speaker system consists of 4 speakers at the bottom of each doors)
Since this is a wagon and I would like to leave the cargo space as is, adding speakers in trunk is not an option for me.

So I looked around and found this thing.
Have any of you seen this in person? Or any idea if this is a good product?

If this thing works like it says, I can add speakers at the rear and keep my cargo space.

I would like to hear what you guys think.
    Thanks in advance

you got to understand something about JC whitney....
Don't get me wrong that place has tons of cool stuff. But speakers from JC whitney...

They will give you the cheapest product to perform a specific function that they can get their hands on. Its like the Wal-mart of automotive parts and accessories. 90 bucks isnt bad for the box itself (if its decent) IMO since its configured the way you want it, but I can guarantee the speakers in it will be low quality. If its the only thing you can find, buy it and try it, and if the speakers suck you can buy new speakers and mount them in that box.

in looking at it again, those are some super small speaker holes i think. biggest cutout is for a 4" speaker? I would try to find something that would at least hold 6x9's i think. maybe someone whos more into the car stereo stuff can chime in here?

        Thanks for the reply.

At this moment, anything will be improvement. I think.
I guess like you said, I can try it and replace the speakers if I need better sound.

        Anyone seen similar products?

Why do you need sound in the back? That would make it sound like it's coming from behind you instead of the front where it should be.

I was thinking that would give me surround sound.

I'd get something like this instead:

I think you should pass. IMO the only sounds you want coming from behind you are mid range and bass. Personally I don't even have a rear stage. I just have my woofers and a front stage. This box is designed for 2 4" woofers which I don't think will do much of anything then you'll have to find 4" woofers to replace those, not easy. Then it has tweets and midranges the size of some tweets. You don't really want the types of sounds these speakers will produce coming from behind you. I think you'll be highly dissappointed even for 90 bucks.

A friend of mine had a somewhat similar arrangement, not from this company, but something along these lines.

He was really dissapointed with the quality, if you're going to even bother buying new speakers, I agree with dagger in that they should fit 6x9s. Even if you were to replace the crappy speakers with something else, you're still going to be in a bind to find 4" speakers, let alone subs.
