  • Serious buzzing/noise problem, stops when HU is touched...

I am having quite a weird problem with buzzing, and that is that it only comes out of the right side speakers, and it stops if I just touch the metal on the HU with my finger. It will re-start randomly, usually when I hit a bump or something like that. There is no buzz when I am listening to a cd or the radio through the HU, it's just when I switch over to AUX to listen to the PC.

I am running all the power (inverter) down the left side of the car, and the RCA's go AUX in to the HU up the middle of the car, so I don't think that's it.

Any ideas on - 1. Why is it only the right channel buzzing, and 2. Why does it stop when I touch the HU?

I am assuming something is screwed up grounding-wise - maybe the HU? Any ideas?

Does the buzzing occur when the engine is off?

Bad ground and some intermittant short circut.

Check your ground wires (read up if you need to) and look for any bad insulation on you speaker wires (or other wire)

yeah, its probably a loose ground that gets knocked around whenever you hit a bump.

          Thanks for the help

Thanks guys - I will check all the grounds - and no the buzzing doesn't happen when the engine is off, nor does it buzz when the inverter is switched off.

Thanks and I'll update when I find something out.

            Just an update

So I finally got a day off to pull out the HU. The culprit was a pinched RCA cable on a steel bracket (going to AUX-in). Apparently I wasn't so 'gentle' when I pushed the HU back in the first time, so it was shorting out randomly, hence the buzz.

Thanks much guys. Next up - molding the screen into the dash!

            :-)
