  • anyone who has had their car in an import or any other car show, please help me

I am planning on putting my Integra in the Hot Import Nights show in Boston, MA on July 17th. It is at the Bayside Expo Center, and having been there I know it is indoors. I was wondering, how can I run my stereo, neon lights, strobes, etc. for a good portion of the show (3-5 hours) without draining my battery. For a little background, my stereo is about 2500 watts RMS (yes I know this is right), plus a 750 watt power inverter for a carputer and other lighting, and about 16 neon tubes and strobes. I have an Optima primary battery, as well as a yellow top secondary battery, 5 farad capacitor, and 200 amp alternator. Even with this, I was told that I can probably have my stereo, light, etc. on for about 45 minutes - 1 hour before the secondary battery is drained (which I don't want to do). So if anyone knows a solution, please help me. I doubt that I will be able to start my car periodically to rejuice the batteries because it's indoors, but there has to be a way, since I've been to many shows before and seen cars w/ systems blaring and tons of lights on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Find out if your place where you're showing has 110VAC power outlets accessible to you... then you just need to hook up a small, but beefy, battery charger and you should be ok.

what kind of battery charger do you mean? i have one of those emergency units w/ jumper cables, which plugs into the wall. i know i can get an ac outlet at the show, i just don't know how to go about hooking up a charger or whatever it is i would need, and that can handle the massive power consumption

You can ditch the batterys from the show, and use A/C power.. but you need a freakin large power supply to convert to the high wattage. Buy 15 of these and you'll be set.. the show people might not like you though.. better bring a generator:

Don't run your 2500 watt system.. and you should be fine running your lights, and computer, and maybe the system on low or partial power.

jeeez, theres no way u can run 2.5KW of ICE, no point either. just run the neons and carPC off a 12v PSU, battery charger may work, but u might blow it, those arent mean to supply much wattage, theyre designed for trickle charging.

If you do show off your ICE, ull need the engine running, and even then you might be in trouble, 200A x 12 = 2400W lower than yr ICE install alone, suppose you might not need it for long so yr second battery could help out, and the ICE probably wont be 2500W all the time.

If your in luck they might give u 12V power lines, but they certainly wont want yr ice running off them.

CAR show, not audio show, so just have all your bling polished up, and the carputer playin some fast and furious

well, i am going to install switches to the remote turn on's to the sub amps, so i can just have one amp running two subs (600 watts total). i know they offer ac outlets for $45. i definitely want the carputer running and all neons and strobes. i could probably get away with like a 150 amp power supply or something. all depends. i don't even know how i would hook up the power supply, because i have the strobes and neons running off my primary battery and the stereo running of my secondary. plus, i guess you aren't even allowed to have the battery hooked up during the show. i don't know, will figure something out. thanks for the help

Yeah they want you to pay to use their power, and they don't want to have a lot of people getting jumps in order to leave the show.

I work at a parts store, and I ended up selling an AC-DC converter to him because he said he wasn't allowed to have his battery hooked up to the car while it was inside. I guess they don't want any battery explosions or whatever.
You might want to double-check the regulations before you buy anything.

Anyway, good luck at the show! Representin' the MP3Car clique!

yes, i am having my friend Travis, put in a carputer for the show. he said that if I can sell five for him, he will give me one free. i figure i have a good chance showing it off at the show and handing out business cards. he has his own businessing selling/installing carputers

Exactly. Ever notice that nobody is blasting their 3000W+ system at normal car (import) shows? Because if everybody started doing it.. it would be hell!

All you need to do is polish the car real well, put up the amp rack for display and as binary suggested, throw some FF2 on. Thats all these shows are about.

You might need a decent battery to hold your computer the entire day.. but IMHO just get a 12VDC power supply and hook it up to the carputter instead of wiring direct to battery. Thats how i have my system setup, that way when i do huge file copies (while my car sits in the garage) it doesnt drain the battery... I just switch it to 120v with my 12VDC power supply and let it run all night. remote admin is a life saver
