  • I'm looking for a beefy amp. Comment on this find.

    I've found this:

    Amp

    Says 1200w (I'm assuming peak) and 350w x 1 (RMS?)

Anyone give me an idea whether this is a decent amp or not? Or maybe suggest a different amp?

are you looking for a subwoofer or mid/high amp??? if you are looking for a subwoofer amp look no further than the jbl p series amps (150.1, 300.1, 600.1, 1200.1)... best bang for the buck... you can find them all day long on ebay starting at $50ish for the 150.1 and up to $250ish for the 1200.1...

you cant beat bang for the buck with the JBL BP1200.1. not even the hifonics brutus can compare.

earthquake D2 is on par sound quality wise with the hifonics brutus, but weighs in at a whopping 2000 RMS, the brutus is 1500. price tag should be similar on ebay.

how much power are you looking for at what load?

600 watts rms on 4 kicker L7's? doubt it. it'll work but they can handle alot more, my 2 kicker comp 12 use 400 watts each. a 1200 watt amp for $157?? ahahahahaha, umm no. realisticly figure $1 a watt as a guide for a good amp. the 600/1200 watt rating is MAX as in they zap it with like 24 volts for about 2 seconds till it hits the highest wattage it can and they stamp it with those numbers. a good amp is measure with 12 volts at max power and then under rated.

if you really want to power those subs look for a good class D mono amp, Xtant, Zapco, JL audio

why not four subwoofers and one amp? that earthquake D2 would power all four nicely, if you purchased the D4 versions. 500 RMS per driver. thats 150 rms more PER driver than getting FOUR of those 350 rms amps!

much less a pair of D2 per pair of L7's.... or pair of 1200.1's per pair....

and price compare the cost of a single D2 versus the cost of four of the amplifiers you are looking at.... youll notice ones WAY cheaper than the other

ebay. look up earthquake car audio online, you wont even get the company website, jsut internet retailers. you can try for those. probbaly expensive

al;so check out the classifieds at www.termpro.com. the hardcore competitors swap amps every major show. so you can get once or twice used amps for dirt. And we arent talking about beefy as in 350 watts, here. we are talkign beefy as in 3500 watts

but they have plenty of 1500-2500 watt amplifiers as well. and thats 1500-2500 true watts, not 3000 peak watts and 350 rms watts.

If I needed 3000 rms, id definitely go to either Ebay or termpro, or www.caraudioforum.com, or www.elitecaraudio.com.

                    or www.soundillusions.net.

Holy crap man. Retail on the S10L7 is $350 each. You're going to spend around 1500 bucks on subs but you're looking at a cheap *** amplifier?

My opinion is you're gonna want two mono amps capable of running 2 ohm (fairly common) and puts out 1200watts each (600watts to each sub). Don't buy up 4 subs and then not get enough power to run them all.... you might as well not get that many subs if that's the case.

1200watts on a class D amp isn't as insane as it may sound. Thats actually only 600watts into a 4 ohm load. When you cut the resistance down (by adding more subs in parrallel) the power output goes up... IF its a quality amp. Heat goes up and you still need more amperage. Consider about 100 amps to each amplifier.

The amp in your link does advertise the requisite power output... but its bull****. You asked if the numbers were peak or RMS... if it doesn't actually say RMS, then it isn't RMS. Even if it says average or constant, that doesn't mean RMS.
