  • Which Amp NOT to buy

I got another car, the radio has no aux-in, so I was going to delete the radio and go with an amp (for my pc)
I don't need a big amp, I would only like to spend around 60 bucks or so (if possible), but I would like it to be a 4 channel amp.
I shopped around, problem is...I don't know which ones to stay away from.
    Walmart's got this at 80 bucks:http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=2168515
Also, all the amps are so freaking big, doesn't anyone make something smaller? I don't care what it looks like...it's gonna be hidden anyway.
To summarize: I want a $60.00, small, 4 channel amp.

well for $60 you're not gonna get the best quality amp...but they can "get the job done" I've heard some Pyramids and Lanzars before and they were ok... comparable to stock radio but a little more watts RMS..

for small amps you can try Blaupunk PA 4150 (i think that was the model) its discontinued but can be found on ebay.. small 4channel in plastic casing.. they also made a 2channel.. 2150 or somethin like that.. but these are >$60

Check out Parts Express they sell cheap amps in your price range

A $60 amp is going to be a joke any way you look at it. You could go with an FM modulator. Still gives a fairly clean signal.

Well, I need to keep the stereo in the Honda Passport (which I'm going to sell)
This new (used) car, 95 Concorde has no AUX in. That's why I was going to go with an amp only (no HU). Plus the radio must come out, that's were I'm gonna put the Lilliput.

        So best option????
By another HU (with AUX in)and put it in the glove box (hide it somewhere)
        or buy an amp.
        Opinions please?
(how about a $100 amp? It just needs to be small in size)

I am sure that 60 bucks or even 100 bucks for a 4 channel amp will not be a quality one you wish it to be. Maybe 150 will do.

well like i sad i had a friend w/ a Pyramid 4ch amp.. it did its job, and worked decent.. sounded ok... but then again he was using his stock speakers and didnt need/want more than like 40wrms

Just dont expect high quality output from it.. Also.. it would sound MUCH better using a cheap amp than an FM modulator/transmitter.. those are ****..

On a side note have you tried to see if there's a hack for your radio to fake an aux-in (through cd-changer controls?)

I'm gonna get rid of the radio, put the Lilli there. That radio is useless...no cd controls-aux-in or anything. So like I said, either I need a radio or an amp. I might as well get an amp around $150.00. The speakers are "premium" Chryslers, so maybe they'll hold up for awhile.
I checked out some Pioneer 2 channel amp at an audio shop today for $120.00. I guess I can go 2 channel and split the speakers front/rear, who adjusts balance anyway?
Didn't check what amps the Pioneer had (i was in a hurry) The stock (Chrysler) radio with the "premium" (Chrysler) speakers sound pretty good, I assume the Pioneer amp should sound equal or better?
                  I might do this.

Memphis makes very respectable amps that are small. They seem to be longer then wide, which is what I need. You can check them out at this site

If you live in the los angeles/orange county area I know a shop that has a memphis amp group buy going on. I am going to grab the small belle (55x4 + 400x1) for myself.

Get the amp. t'would be the cleaner option (avoid excess baggage of a new HU). a cheap amp will beat the socks off of a cheap replacement HU int terms of sound quality. since your in the market for a serious potential upgrade you should spend as much as you can afford. it will be worth it.

you can usually find the board 'amp-in' on a radio/hu. get a source walkman etc. cut a head fone lead, wire the outer cable to HU ground, touch randomly the inner off of various solder blobs on the board (HU on) evntualy you'll find that you walkman starts to appear (amplified) out the speakers... I'll let you figure out the rest.

Amp = 60$...You'd be better off without it... The sound would be incredible... that's incredible in a bad way...
So, Muldrick, a pic of the interiour of the car...? You know, so we can see how it would look like.
