  • what's the smallest 5ch amp you've ever seen?

i'm looking for a 5 channel amp that is both small physically, and in output. most of the 5ch's i see are rated at something like 4x50 + 1x200 at the low end, and only go higher from there. i really only need something that can push 5x50 since i don't have subs. i have a set of aura bass shakers, which run on 25w rms each, plus my regular cabin speakers, which would be fine only gettin 25w rms each. and since i am working with a miata (mazda mx5) i don't have much room. right now i have a 4x50 and a 2x50, however, the 2x50 is bridged to one channel, and the gain turned WAY down to power my bass shakers, so really, i only need a 5ch amp.

anyone seen a small amp like that? both physically small and now a bazillion watts output? please share links if you got em!

    hmm.. well..

the smallest one I've seen was the JL 5.1 amp.. w/ spdif in... but its pricey...

Is there any reason you cant keep your current setup? or how about just trying to find smaller amps to replace yours..

The older (like 1-2yrs now) Blaupunkt PA2150 and PA4150 were really tiny and had good power..
And theres nothing wrong w/ having too much power.. as long as you set your gains properly you should be fine, cuz even though the amp is rated at 150wrms it doesnt mean taht its constantly pushing that....(only at max volume)

can't keep the current setup cuz the 50x2 i'm using for the bass shakers is steadily dying. hell, i got my money's worth out of that old amp - i bought it in 1997, and it's been in no less than 4 different vehicles. and i think i paid something like $75 for it brand new! HiFonics makes some good stuff.

another reason is cuz i have not actually installed the 4x50 yet. i'm still powering the cabin speakers with the head unit, but the HU is going away once i get the carputer installed. i bought the 4x50 off ebay (yeah, yeah, i know...) and didn't have dimensions on it. unfortunately, it doesn't fit where i want to put it, and like i said, space is at a premium in the miata, and it would be more efficient (space-wise, as well as wiring-wise) to have just one amp instead of two). so this amp has been sitting in my closet for several months.

i'll look into those blau amps you mentioned. are those the ones with the plastic casings instead of the usual aluminum? i think i remember looking at them when i originally bought this 4ch, but was thinking they were cheap (read: "crap") since they were only blaupunkt. i just read on the parts express site that they're owned by bosch... ok, os maybe they're not just some little no-name company. definitely gonna have to look into them now. thanks.

        bass shakers....lol - that's bad ***....hehehehe

that's about as small as I've seen 5 channel amps.....most every 5 channel will have the fifth channel dedicatd to a sub so it will be more powerful

you guys must think i'm made of money, judging by the MSRPs on those amps!!

          i found an older soundstream on ebay that's 15" x 5" x 2" and is 40x4 and 75x1 (all 4ohm) and right now it's $50. that's much closer to my budget.

              Wuz UP man

hey gibson i just saw that you live in houston. Do you know where harwin buisness district is? There a store called falcon electronics on harwin near the corner of fondren. Go there they got all kinds of equipment, they sell retail and wholesale but almost everytime thier retail prices will beat anything on ebay. Dontforget that thier tryingto make money just like every one else so haggle with them and youlll see that you can find what u need. If they dont have what your looking for then take a lil time and check out the other shopping center that are on harwin between gessner and fondren there are like 10 other car audio suppliers in that area and they all haggle. This way youl be able to see in person what they have and youll know if it can fit your aplication. good luck and i hope this helps you out. H- town representing

i know there's several flea market type places all over. i've not gone to one cuz i don't want a cheesy knockoff like "Suny" or "Allpine" or something, ya know?

Actually, I live in the Houston area too and can comment on those places in Harwin as well. One of my friends has done business with Falcon and has recommended it to me. I have personally used Houston Car Stereo on Hilcroft and Westpark and they're good too.

All the places on Harwin are mainly wholesale, but will sell to retail customers as well. The big places sell legit items - and most are authorized dealers for that product so you will be able to keep the warranty as well. This can sometimes be an issue with eBay items because usually the sellers are not authorized dealers so there is no warranty.

If the store isn't an authorized dealer, they may have some in-house warranty going on. Make sure and ask prior to purchasing. Whatever the case, it's definitely worth checking out - eBay prices are sometimes/usually higher than the prices I have seen there. And these items are brand new in the box (although I'm sure they have used ones as well).

Also, jugador is right about the haggling. No matter what anyone tells you - all prices on Harwin are negotiable

Oh - and if you're into hot items - there's always the local pawn shop.. but I wouldn't go there.

just a thought since most 5 channels dont provide the needed power unless you go up into the 1000 dollar range.

why not just stack 2 Blaupunkt PA series amp.

Get a PA4100 for interior and then like a PA2150 bridged.

They are class T which is real efficient, and when u take off hte cover they are a 8x8 squares. stack 2 on top of each other and you got a cheap small setup.
