  • Line out Vs Digital out

Okay here is the question I think I have narrowed down the noise and I am moving on to step two

should I use my current amps

PC to Line Driver to Amps

or get an amp with a Tos input
(like the Phoenix Gold OCTANE-R 5.1MT see below)

PC to Amp via Toxlink or Optical

Looking for Clean clear sound I know each part you add will add in some noise so this is a good battle for the K.I.S.S. theroy

Pros with using the current amps
    I have them already
    More power
    High end amps

Cons Line level output from a SB card is low would need a line driver ?

    Pros with new amp
Full digital signel path little or no noise

    Cons
    A lot less power

I'm also on the look out for this. My motherboard has SP/DIF output and I want to take advantage of it. I've tried using optical output from my xbox and believe me, it sounded totally awesome.
Audio Rockford Fosgate: 900 Watt 4-channel amp, 501bd Mono amp
Computer AMD 2400+ XP, 1 GB DDR RAM, Orbit Micro 250W DC-DC PSU

    Head units are for cheaters!

clear and clean sound does not = Phoenix Gold, not really close even

what speakers are you listening to this on? stockers or aftermarket?

boost the signal as it comes out of the mobo/sound card with an eq or something of the nature. Boost it up to something in the range of 4+ volts, then from there go to your amps.

        Currently I have

2 Sets of Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 6.5" 2-way component speaker system.
        Precision Power PCX-480

2 Infinity Kappa Perfect 12D VQ Subs
        Precision Power PC21400

But I have been considering scaling down to a single 5 or 6 ch amp.
