  • Removal of Sony Xplode Head Unit

    G'day All

Just wondering if anyone knows how to remove a sony Xplode head unit without having to get keys...

i brought my car second hand and it didn't come with the keys to actually remove the stereo and now i want to remove it so i can add the audio input for the carputer.

However i can't seem to get my hands on a set of keys..Local Auto electrician won't do it for anything less then $10 and i am guessing i can buy some for less that that...but i don't really want to have to wait to order them..is there any easy non offical way to pop the head unit out...i have heard of using coat hangers or 2x 3mmx1mm flat pieces of metal. Can anyone confirm or deny this

    Cheers

go to best buy/ circuit city - they should have some keys - if you just act nice they may hand them to you and let you do it behind the shop...but you gotta be nice to em!

EDIT: just noticed where you are, I'm sure that there's a car audio shop around you that would be willing to help out, not sure if you have BB or CC down there.

well then tell them they are poo poo heads and that they just lost a customer over something as simple as pulling a radio out of a dash for a few bucks

Fush, you are going to have to remove the centre console around the radio and then wwrestle with the clips once it's in your hands

Just get a flat head that is really thin and alternate sides slowly prying it out (or you can get two and just slide the whole thing out in one pull)....but don't do this at night with a flash light or you might be mistaken for an intruder.

If you can get a diagram of what the keys look like, you can figure out what to substitute. Usually a thin, flat piece of metal like a screwdriver will do it. That's how I got my stereo out without keys.

ok i managed to get it out...i ended up using a metal ruler and that seemed to work..

however upon removing it i found the sad truth that there is only a "bus line in" and that is not recognised by the head unit unless there is a Bus unit wire coming from what is meant to be either a cd stacker or ipod unit

does anyone know if there is away into tricking it into working...???

                    Regards
