  • CarPC -> Amp (Headunit-less)

    How do I go about doing this? I've searched the forums for days to find any type of schematics... and google is useless for finding the wiring diagram for the stock amp in my car (or hell, even pictures of it would be nice...) but I've turned up with nothing, can somebody help me out?

    Stock amp in a 95 Mustang

    I still have the stock wiring harness and I have a spare wiring harness for the headunit I had in previously, but I don't have any ANY room for a headunit, from what I understand it is possible to get full 5.1 surround out of this harness?

    DSATX | Shuttle XPC SN41G2Bv2 | 619GL-70NP | CF 1.6 (which is still unusable in the car!)

    You want to do that with your stock amplifier? Good luck dude. Aftermarket amps no problem, but stocks are a whole different ball game. If it were me I just wouldn't bother - not worth it.

      ditto on what daPyr0x said...I'd not waste my time and would just go get an aftermarket amp and save yourself a lot of headaches - of course then you might have to replace speakers too to get the correct ohm loads...not sure how the 95s are in that regard.

        So now the question is...
        Do most amps come with a wiring diagram to hook up to the stock speakers?

          ummm, not generally, since there are so many different manufacturers out there and they all use different color schemes

          find a mustang forum and ask on there, or better yet, a specific car audio forum, people usually will post up the wiring diagrams if they have them

          otherwise, it's not hard to test which speakers go to which wires

            Take a look at head unit wiring diagram.
            I mean, just go to circuit city, fry's electronic or local audio shop and buy an after market HU adapter (or whatever it called) for your car.

              I'd have to say that if you don't have enough money to upgrade your stock (extremely low quality) speakers and amp, then don't even bother with a carputer. If you can cough up a little bit of money and get yourself an inexpensive aftermarket amp and speaker set, it will be easier to connect everything and you might have a decent sounding set up (god forbid).

              EDIT: I don't even remember typing this...lol. That's not even true ^^^. My last car was a mustang and the stock speakers were actually pretty decent. I didn't have the Mach 460, but i've heard that as well...and it's not bad at all. Definitely try them out first and switch them only if your not satisfied. GL.

                What an elitist post!

                I've got some kenwood amp that I was on the verge of returning because I was informed that it was possible to maintain the stock amp.
                But, you've obviously never listened to the stock speakers on a Mustang if you think they are "extremely low quality" ( ), I've already got a set of Infinity 6x9s for when I do decide to upgrade... if I need to, that is.
                It's not a matter of money, I just don't want to buy anything I don't need.

                Most importantly, I don't have much space to work with, at a maximum the amp can only be something like 4" tall, 8" deep and 7" wide
                I don't want to pull something that looks ghetto and ricey by putting it in my trunk or something

                edit: I might have the premium sound system, as it appears that was an option.
                Take it for what it's worth, but whatever it has in it is pretty nice

                  and i too like the sound of the mach460 ..... granted aftermarket upgrades will sound better.. but ... ill buy the good stuff when i have more cash....

                    Here's another wiring diagram. It might be a little bit easier to read than the one already posted, and you can double check the wiring. Good Luck.

                      I think you could do this without too much trouble, actually. You need to find a harness that goes from the square amp harness to RCA. I have seen them out there, but I don't know where to get them. If you can't find one, you can solder RCA ends onto a harness like the Metra 70-5511. Then just run RCA cables back to your carputer, use an RCA-mini adapter and your set. Be sure to turn the factory amp on by sending 12V to the blue/white wire in the gray aftermarket power harness. I don't know how it would sound, but it would work. Good luck.
