is there any way to blow speakers?? My friend bet me I could not blow my speaker with my amp... i want to prove him wrong!

There are a couple of things I can think of off the top of my head.

    1) Short the voice coil out by pushing too much current through the speaker, this also causes massive heat, which the speaker might not be able to dissapate properly. This is usually only do-able in subs since other speakers don't require as much power.
    2) the surround comes unglued or dust cap comes unglued. This is caused by pushing the speakers way too hard for an extended period of time.

Now, unless your "friend" is willing to replace your blown speakers I wouldn't try this just for the hell of it.

Also, if you try and push alot of current to your sub through your amp..make sure your wiring is up to par, or else you'll have a big mess.

What are the specs on the things you are trying to blow up? Might help in determining if you can actually do this.

Rating of speaker? Rating of amp?
To blow a speaker turn it up to number 11 (or more). You need to send enough juice to burn out the coil. DC offset is good, but most amps are capacitively coupled to avoid this.

They are not subs, just regular speakers. They are alpines... i will look for the specs, but I think about 50w each @ 4ohms. My amp is about [email protected] (after powering all four of my speakers). I already have new speakers, and one of these speakers has a hole in the rubber so I am not too worried about salvaging them.

Assuming the amp channels aren't already running in bridge configuration, bridge two channels and hook that up. Should increase your power output at the cost of less channels.

Do you really think that will blow it? He says that the amp has some feature to protect against it or something...

the only way your gonna have a chance at blowing them is turn everything up to its max and let it loose. That will tell you if you can or can't.
The amp doesn't know what speakers you are running or anything, it just see's the load and pushes current through accordingly.

So, turn you amps gain all the way up, bass boost up, bridge your outputs, and connect it to one speaker. Then put on a nice bass beat, because low frequencies require much more current, and stand back and watch what happens.

I'm sort of a noob at all of this, so how do I bridge all the connetions to just one speaker? Do I simply line up all of the positives and negatives?

I would say that is would be your best bet to blowing them up but i cannot see why you would want to do that, just go out and buy a $20 speaker set or sub from some crappy store and do the same thing.

ok bridge your amp and set your fitlers to lpf and turn up the bass on your deck, bnut before you play music unplug the other speakers as to not fry all of them, and you can play something with low frequencies like soemthing from the bass mechanics or soemthing, play it for like 10 minutes at max and it should blow

hers how you blow your speakers, you pull it out of your car, disconnect all wires, put it behind your rear tire, then reverse over it. I'm 99% sure it will not work sufficently again.
