  • Laptop in car (Center speaker = Home theather or bridged stereo?)

    Specs:

Laptop (stereo output) -> casette adapter -> head unit = 4 speakers only.

I have these 2 options to get a center channel working:

    1. Install the 5.1 home theather in the car (works fine with 12v from battery)

    a) using the the 5 included speakers + sub-woofer, or

    b) using the 4 car internal speakers + the center speaker and the sub-woofer of the home theather.

    c) using the preamp output of the headunit with the home theather decoder.

Using (a) option, I will bypass the head unit completely, and i will get all the audio from the home theather speakers

Using (b) option, I will bypass the head untit completely, but I will use the 4 car internal speakers, and center and subwoofer from home theather speakers.

using (c) option i will control the volume of the home theather with the volume control of the head unit.

    2. Forget the previous option #1:

Installing the center speaker of the home theather in the center of the dashboard and connecting the positive wire of the center speaker with the positive wire of the left speaker of the head unit and the negative wire of the center speaker with the negative wire of the right speaker.

Note: i know that I will not get 5.1 with option #2 because I am not using the home theather decoder and/or the sub-woofer, but im really interested in the center channel only, furthermore, the home theather decoder box upmix the stereo signal to the center channel, so i think that i will get the same upmix bridging the left and right speaker with the center speaker, so i will appreciate your suggestions.

Note #2: I will be glad to hear suggestions of where to place the home theather decoder box and the subwoofer on a Toyota Corolla.

Note #3: USB Audigy is not an option.

    Thanks,
    Alex.

I would reccommend NOT using regular computer speakers in your car. There are many threads about that and pointing out why NOT to use them. Basically they will sound great in your house, and they will sound tinny and drowned out in your car. Car speakers are menat to work in the car overcoming road noise and the ackward angles they are placed in (at your feet in the door).

If you don't want to buy an amp, then the cassette adaptor is probably your best bet. Otherwise just get a cheap 4channel amp and send the signal straight to your speakers. Then a mono for your subwoofer if you have/want one. The center speaker is almost useless, and you will not be able to tell the difference. If you really need it, get another speaker for like $30 to $40, and mold it in your back seat or something.

So in short, do not use the PC speakers... Do a search for it, and you will know why.

Hmmm... Are you talking about this post?

So, what about using the home theather decoder box with the car speakers?

The center speaker is almost useless, and you will not be able to tell the difference
WHAT? I WILL TELL YOU A *HUGE* DIFFERENCE...

I do not understand how can you get 4 channels working from 5.1 output via cassette adapter ?
You only get 2*2 channels anyway, right ? So why can't you just connect sub to the 2 channel output and have it like that ? Car stereo provides output to the speakers which you can splice into sub to work...
Why all that 5.1 question ?

Well I don't see why you can't use the decoder box, but then you will probably want to amplify that signal to get to your speakers. Also, most of the time, PC speakers and car speakers use different resistance (ohms).
Since you are going to need to amplify the signal from the decoder box (and possible convert the resistance), you are back to needing something to feed the signal through, and without an amp, you are stuck with your cassette adaptor again, and then you only get stereo. Just buy an amp, they are cheap. (Obviously you don't need a competition grade one, so just get a cheapo).

I thought he wanted a center speaker, but I don't think he needs it. And you are right, you can get sound from 4 speakers but is truly only stereo sound, and crappy cassette sound at that.

Yeah, crappy casette is stereo, and the head unit upmix it to 4 channels.

My question is if it is good idea to bridge the head unit left and right speaker with the home theather center speaker, or its a better idea to use the home theather decoder box with the car speakers.

NEITHER! The decoder box is probably incompatable, so no option 2... Your car doesn't have a center speaker, so no to option 1! If you are thinking, "well I'll just use the PC speakers" then please take the time to look through that 15-20 page thread you did find on why not too. You will be sorely dissapointed, and after fabricated crap into your car, you will be forced to live with it.

I assume you will try it anyways, because rarely do people listen, but everyone here is just trying to save you a headache.

come on men, i can place the center speaker of the home theather in front of the steering wheel and i am sure that i will hear it while driving with heavy noise traffic.

May I suggest that you drive down the road with your current setup (cassette and HU) off. Just tape or velcro the speakers where you want, and plug them in to your pc. Now drive down the road. With your windows up. it will be tinny and barely listenable. Then crack your window, the sound will be gone due to the high noise. Just try it, and you will see what a waste of time it is. Have you read that other thread yet?

If you really want a center speaker, then just use a normal car speaker mounted somewhere and feed it through the home theater part you are so hellbent on using.

Yes, i read the whole thread about the PC speakers in cars, but I will try it myself the next week and I will let you know the results...

I will bet $1.000.000 right now that it will work, and i will hear to Richard Clayderman playing a classic solid piano song though the center speaker of my PC home theather while driving with heavy traffic noise...

and you, how much money you will bet?

                      Regards,

Hmmm... Are you not betting nothing because you know you will lose?...

The world is flat or its round?

You say: the world is flat or round because another people is telling the same? but have you seen it from outside to tell it yourself?

btw, you need to go to the space for knowing that it does not have gravity?

                            Yay for ****ing matches.

No I said I don't bet money. I wouldn't even bet that the world is round... but that's because it is flat.

I already told you my opinion, now try it out and see the truth for yourself.

btw, you need to go to the space for knowing that it does not have gravity?
actually it does have gravity. You yourself create a small gravitational field with respect to any object around you, much like the earth does to us, and as the sun does to the earth, and as the milky way does to the sun, and as the, you get the idea. The force due to gravity is the gravitational constant "G", multiplied by the sum of the masses of the two objects (m1 + m2) divided by the distance between the two objects squared. F = G(m1+m2)/r^2

                            Well anywho...

Alex, I am bulding real 5.1 surround in my car ( case I want it this way) BUT you are absolutely wrong.

How do you want to get 5.1 surrround signal get out from your NB through stereo output??

If you really want true 5.1 you have following options:
                              - Soundcard with decoding 5.1 and 5+1 analog output ( to the amplifiers and speakers)
                              - Souncard with digital-out and 5.1 external decoder .... and amps and speakers

with your HU in LeftFront sp. you can hear exactly same sound as in LeftRear ....but with 5.1 can't .....please be patient and
