  • New subs... Or old subs...

Ok so I have two DVC Bazooka tubes 500 watts RMS each...

The two tubes really take up a lot of trunk space, but they also make it a ***** to get to my tire well if i have to get a spare out of there...

If I were to take the subs out of the tubes and maybe mount them in a fiberglass box at the side of the trunk would that still sound as good as the tubes?

Here's a pic so you see what I'm talking about.

    1972 Datsun 240Z- (WIP)
    1994 Toyota Camry- (sold)

Leave that crap alone. With the right box you can get one sub to sound as good as two subs. Bazooka tubes aren't meant to be used

I don't have plans to replace the rockford 300 watt amp. So i'm gonna go with either JL or Audiobahn... Suggestions are welcome.

        What is the "right" box?

One that's matched to the speakers that are going into the box.
There is no 'one size fits all' perfect enclosure.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?

get one of the new W3V3's, 10/12 W6V2's.. I don't think your 300 watt amp would be good enough for the W7s

Look into Stereo Integrity, Incriminator Audio, RE Audio. Stay away from mainstream brands like JL and RF.

Curry, you were complaining about not being able to get to your spare earlier. Have you looked at the enclosure specs for the MAX? They're air hungry.

Hmm I thought this would be able to work in the trunk sidewell.

That may work. I know a guy who was running 2 MAX 12s in his spare tire well. If you're good at fiberglassing, give it a shot.

So I would have to figure out how much air space I need and build it that big?

What if I were to reverse the sub, I think its called freeair or something. I would have to properly seal it but would that work? My trunk is not sealed either its a 1994 camry.

Inverting the sub just gives you more airspace inside the box by removing the driver's displacement from the box. Doesn't sound better, doesn't sound worse. Free air is not desireable for 90% of the subwoofers on the market.
