  • just a quick HU question

so i have this double bin bose head unit on my maxima. so is the head unit the audio source? if i remove the HU will there be a connector in the back that connects to the amps? will i be able to connected spliced audio cables into such a connector and magically hear audio on all my speakers?

Depends. Usually those HU's have internal amps. Meaning that the audio is amplified within the unit and the wires coming out go to the speakers directly. So if you just splice directly into them, then there will be almost no volume.

i'm pretty sure the amps are located behind each speaker.

or so the maxima forum tells me. i've looked at the rear speakers and it seems so. there's a block behind the speakers with 4 wires going in, i assume + - 12v gnd. i can possibly also intercept the wires at the speakers themselves right? just cut the wire and insert my own rca wire.

Why do all that? The wires are all nice and pretty up in the dash, splice in there. You can even get an aftermarket harness that'll plug right up so you don't have to hack out any factory wiring.

You can pick one of these up at Circuit City or Best Buy. Then all you need is some crimp caps or butt connectors and a crimper. Itís definitely the way to go.
