  • Subs running off mid amp

I have an Alpine MRP-F240 4-Channel amp, and I am only using 2 channels on it. I am wondering if it is possible to bridge the other 2 channels and run a subwoofer off of that. On alpine's site, it says:
    40 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms
    50 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms
100 watts RMS x 2 bridged output at 4 ohms
So I could technically have a 100 W sub running at 4Ohm running off of the 2 unused channels? I only want a small amount of bass, and I don't want to take up space/spend money on a sub amp and a bigger subwoofer. I was looking at this sub:
    8" Sub
It says it runs from 40-100 watts, with a 200 watt peak. As long as I didn't crank it up all the way, this should work, right? Thanks for your help.

Awesome, the only thing I am questioning is what happens if the volume gets turned up? Could the amp potentially blow since it can only give off 100 watts and the peak of the sub is 200 watts?

only if it was the opposite, if the amp was pushing 200 and the sub was 100, the sub would blow, as long as you properly tune the amp, you'll be fine... get an AC volt meter, disconnect the speakers, pop in a 100hz test tone, turn it as loud as you'll ever listen to your music, and then use your AC volt meter to get 20V out of the amplifier, this will set the amplifier to push 100 watts at 4 ohms when you have your music all the way turned up... have fun
