  • C# programming

Hi, I'm a programmer and I want to write an app to read obd data from my car. I was thinking of writing it in C# or something similar to start just for the simplicity of the GUI. I have seen some postings of people who say they wrote apps in C# but I can't find an SDK for that. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks!

What OBD II device are you writing code for?

I was thinking of using an obd2 all-in-one (http://www.obd2allinone.com/) but I didn't know it mattered for the software. Is there something specific that I should be using?

It only matters, b/c my code is written and works best using the ELMScan 5 from scantool.net. I have tried various others from ebay that have claimed to operate just the same, but they dont. There are small dissimilarities in the response bytes and some commands that arent supported.

They all use a basic com port for communication, but their differences make them difficult to interchange. At least for someone with my limited programming capabilities.

Unfortunately, the only C# code I have, works with a totally different OBD II protocol converter and has no interchangeability with other ELM type devices. If you want to PM me your email, I will share some simple VB.net code that works very well with the ELM.
