  • Economy Shift Light

I asked a question a while ago about how the shift lights in manual cars are implemented and was told that they take account for driving style, road condition, engine load (vacuum), elevation (MAP), engine temperature, etc.

Does anyone know where I can find a paper or algorithm on this, so that I can implement this shift light into my digial dash software. Right now I have the standard set a rpm limit and light comes on. I would like to give users the ability to define different driving mode interfaces i.e. performance or economy.

Every car I've ever driven with an idiot light just worked off RPM :-/

I prefer the needle resting on the maximum pin. (or red light where lights are used)... Then you know you have loads of fun while driving
