  • Kiwi Wifi - Connect form iPhone App (Objective-C)

    Hello there,

I am pretty new to this whole obd stuff but got totally excited as I got my new kiwi wifi interface :-)
I started to play around with it and sent some obd commands (I checked out an ELM327 docu) via telnet, what workd fine for me. Now I want to start bulding a little app for me to have some more fun. The onlyproblem is: I got totally lost with the whole socket connection thing. I think there are some very capable guys around here and I would be very thankful if someone could point me to the right direction with a few tipps on what to read/google/learn/whatever...

    Regards

So I helped out myself running between my house and my car countlesse times :-) I use CocoaAsyncSocket now to connect to the interface and send messages and the interface responds fine :-) Will buy an ECU sim soon and experiment further.

    Regards

It all depends on how serious you are, really.

Keep in mind that I'm not an expert on iphone development, I'm more knowledgable about what works "everywhere" rather than "this specific iphone way of doing things". That being said:

God's own blessed book about network sockets, primarily under *nix, is Stevens [Buy it on amazon]. If you don't feel like spending that much money, the best online tutorial about sockets is Beej's Guide to Network Programming

Personally I usually go with monkey-see-monkey-do with code examples from manpages and/or teh internets, but that's because I feel comfortable I understand what's going on having read both Stevens and Beej :-)

After all that, there probably are some good examples in the iphone sdk, but you'd have to go looking for that yourself.
