  • OBD II Odometer command

    Hi,
I have an ELM327 based dongle.
Using this dongle, I can get OBD data from my car.
I successfully retrieved speed and RPM but I just can't get the odometer reading.

Does anyone knows how to get the odometer reading from the OBD?
I need the code to send to the ELM.
Is the odometer command different between protocols?

*I dont want any tools such as scantool etc.

    Thanks!!

The odometer is not part of the OBD2 specifications. Therefor a generic command to read it does not exist.

Only a few vehicles that I've seen support this, mainly more modern ones, but there is a way to fudge it.

Mode $01 Pid $31. That will give you distance since MIL cleared. Since pretty much all vehicles have had their mil cleared at one point or another, you should be able to manually enter odometer, then just keep track of that number and add it to your base value.

You can read the odometer with factory tools or equivalent (which support reading odometer values).
