  • Is the OBDLink MX worth the cost?

I had a cheap ELM327 adapter(the clear blue one) in my car, and it died after about 2 weeks. However, my OBDII port is in my engine bay, so it was exposed to a fair amount of heat and moisture which I think killed it. I'm going to relocate the OBDII port to somewhere safer, but now I need a replacement adapter. Is the OBDLink MX worth the seven time premium in cost, or is there a cheaper but still good alternative out there? Thanks. -Ted

The MX is a great product, if you need wireless transfers. It's fast, reliable and works. If you don't need wireless then you can use the obdlink sx or obdlink s. All are quality products. SNO

I'd also just get an extension cable and relocated the reader inside the car. You can get extension cables really cheap on Amazon.

I could, but considering how few wires it is, I'll probably just cut them and splice in extensions. Keeps me from having another bulky plug in my engine compartment.

Yeah, although considering how few wires an OBDII plug, I'll probably just splice in and extend it, rather than have another big plug in my engine bay.

definitely worth it if you ask me. Cant tell you how many times I've been asked by friends and family to check engine codes. That device couldn't make it easier. It also just works, no need to worry about connection interruption or anything, just works.
