Is there any way to extract some information from the ECU of a 1990 Toyota Celica GT4?

Uups, I stepped on some bodies toes here I think!

I have searched and got one hit which didn't give me any good answers!
Secondly, yes I have read the intro which says that all cars after 1 January 1996 but seriously that doesn't answer my question. Is there any way I can get any info out of that car, not only with OBD-II

The easiest way to get information out your car is to buy a new car that supports OBD II.

No there is not easy way. I had an '91 MR2 and although there is some kind of system (cannot remember what it is right now) it's not standard. Not even OBDII. If you want to pursue further might be better to ask in a Toyota forum, that's how I found out mine IIRC.

If you don't want to buy a new car you could look into attaching sensors for what you want to read off (You need Mass air flow, speed and fuel trim for MPG for example) though once again you will have to search and research what you need and write custom software for it.

I may be mistaken but I'm pretty sure you should have no problems getting OBD-II info from your Celica. I have a Corolla 04, that I have had no problems extracting info from. I have the scantool.net kit!

                Cheers

yup, you would be mistaken Its a '90. No OBD stuff, all done by shorting two contacts under the bonnet and reading off flashing codes from the check engine light.

Again, no OBD stuff on the 91 MR2. AFAIK the celica and MR2 run on the same ECUs right up to '98 celicas. After that we go OBD2 if im not mistaken.
