  • Alternatives to OBD

I have a 1990 vehicle so basically I plan on tracing the wires to my speedometer an other gauges The car does have a computer (as in the one that gm/chevy provides. not a pc) has anyone traced these out and written a program or something similar im assuming if i get the readout on the gauges eg fuel ..... 5volts=empty and 10 volts=full etc... i could make a decent program if it hasnt been done in the past..

only problem im not a programmer. ive dont some stuff cgi flash actionscript but never vb or c++

You can get some data in and out of the chevy computers of that era. There should be a connector under the dash, where you short two pins to flash the codes which has a another pin which is the data line.

Its been a few years since I started researching that so I don't remember, but I know the pinout and protocol is documented on the internet somewhere.
