  • 1997 honda prelude base model

hi, im building my 2nd carputer, and im putting it on my 97 honda prelude. i tried looking for the obd-II port but did not find it (DUH), when i checked the obd-II compatible list, 97 prelude is not included in the list but was not mentioned that it was incompatible also. does anyone know if i can add obd-II on my prelude? anyone with a 97 prelude pls help. also ive read a bunch of the obd-II devices but still did not find a solid review or recommendation of which one to get. anyone have recommendations, cheap but decent is what im looking for. need to turn off the check engine light, and gauge readings in my screen for show. im thinking about scantool, digimoto or this

Your car should have an OBDII system on it, every car built after 96 does, but if that's not the case, I'm positive our cars have OBDII. If you bought your car used, you may have a chipped-OBD-I in it, but I highly doubt it. I have a 99, but our ports should be in the same place. Your diagnostic port is located on the passenger side. It's on their left, and very close to the shifter assembly, it's roughly a 5" square/trapezoidal shape. If you pull that off, you'll see the diagnostic port. If you pull out the blue plug, and connect the ends with a paperclip, you can get a CEL code from your dash. Here's how:

    Short out the blue harness
Sit in driver's seat, put key in, go to I
    Watch CEL light.
    Long flashes = 10's digit
    Quick flashes = 1's digit

You can use that to ID your problem if you're interested. As far as turning off the light, you can pull the wire off your battery. If it's not a real issue, the computer resets itsself and you're clear.

    Hope this helps somehow.

hey thanks for the tip, you were right about the location, i found a link on the web that directed me to it also. i want to put an obd-ii feature, im planning just to leave the obd-ii in the port all the time, the location is awkward though, its prone to be hit by the passenger plus i will not be able to put the cover back. can you relocate the port to somewhere else? wondering if this will affect the diagnostics? thanks
