  • Surface Mount OBD-II Connector

Do surface mount OBD-II connectors exist? I have been searching online and havent found anything. What do most people use to connect an OBD-II connector onto a PCB?

The trouble with surface mount is the strength. Something the size of an OBDII mounted at 90degrees to the PCB wll have a massive amount of side force on it, with only the strengh of the glue holing the the copper to the PCB. Unless you are pictureing the PCB being directly on the back of the connector.

If someone does bring out a surface mount connector it would be pretty useless. Its not going to save you anything in size.

I guess most connectors of this size would be through hole.

I think he wants a plug with the wire coming off it at a 90 degree angle, so he can put the fuse box cover on with the OBDII cable still plugged in. I need one of those too. My knee hits the plug whenever I get out of the car.

The OBDII receptor on my car is hard mounted in the fuse box.

I guess the connector thats on the dash has wires going to it, could you move this connector so when you plug in your cable its not in the way so much? Mine has wires going to it and held in place with 2x 7mm hex screws, so is possible to move, but I guess all cars are different.
