    hi

I have set up the following. ubuntu 10.04 laptop connected to BU-353 , obdpros USB and sqlite table . when i connect the setup to my toyota prius , the database has only the gpx co-ordinates . theere is no obd data.

    here is the screen capture.

    [email protected]:~/obdgpslogger-0.15$

    obdgpslogger -s /dev/ttyUSB0 -d test20
Opening serial port /dev/ttyUSB0, this can take a while
Successfully connected to serial port. Will log obd data
Successfully connected to gpsd. Will log gps data
Couldn't get obd bytes for cmd 00
    here
    GPS acquisition complete

I used the dmesg command to check if the obd connector is connected. here is the output.

[ 556.985937] USB Serial support registered for generic
[ 556.987246] usbcore: registered new interface driver usbserial_generic
[ 556.987253] usbserial: USB Serial Driver core

It may not have the right baudrate set. IIRC, the obdpro is 38400, and linux probably defaulted to 9600. Try this:

    Code:
    obdgpslogger -s /dev/ttyUSB0 -d test20 -b 38400
I also put in a baudrate guesser, which might work for you:

    Code:
    obdgpslogger -s /dev/ttyUSB0 -d test20 -b 0
Also, obdgpslogger 0.15 is pretty out of date. Could you try the SVN version? Among other changes, the timeout for serial comms is a lot longer in SVN; I made it longer when I found out my bike took too long to initialise the ECU<->Dongle comms, and was failing with that error.

I gotta do a real release one of these days, there's been a lot of changes since 0.15

i didn't think the obdpro defaulted to 38400. maybe you are thinking obdlink?

OBDLink used to default to 38400, the new firmware is 115200

Either way, try different baudrates, and try the SVN version.

I had similar problems with some vehicles - I found obdgpslogger up to v0.15 refused to log from ISO protocols using a 5 baud slow init (modes 3 and 4 on the ELM327) because of the timeout problem chucky mentions.

Also, try using a terminal program (miniterm, hyperterm, whatever) set to the same port (ttyUSB0) to watch the output - you can also determine baud rate this way. (note- don't leave it open once you fixed the problem or it can garbage the output from the logger)

I tried v0.16 today, and it works fine (after 3 timeouts!)

(I'm using ubuntu 10.04 on eeePC 701, bluetooth ELM327 adapter. Test vehicle was a 2000 VW polo)

A lot of serial-type changes went in for 0.16, mainly to fix all the problems you describe

Once it's figure out what baudrate to use, you can put that in ~/.obdgpslogger and never worry about it again [man dot-obdgpslogger]
