  • NON-OBDII Engine Diagnostics?

    I have a BMW e36 that is getting a Chevy LS1 and I'm looking to run engine diagnostics on my carputer display. I think in the past I've seen a PCI card that has inputs that you can literally just splice electric sender wires into and then you just get software to display the values. Does anybody know where I can find something like this?

    Take a look at the Fusion Brain. It is USB and is quite flexible.

      Are you running an ECU on the LS1? If it's ALDL compatable you can get a usb data cable for it.

        I guess I didn't really think about this before I asked the question. The engine is going to be taken from a 99-02 Camaro. Since all of those are OBD-II, will there be an OBD-II port on the engine harness or ECU that I can plug into? I'm really sure why I thought I would be running OBDI, maybe because my car is right now.

          BTW Mods I posted this in the Dashcommand forum by accident, if you could move it to the general Engine Diag form that would great thanks.

            Since the LS1 is fully OBD-II compliant, as long as you are running the factory ECU that comes with the LS1, you will be able to run our DashCommand software (or ScanXL also) on it. For the LS1, there is only one wire you need to connect to the scan tool (plus power and ground from the battery) to make it communicate.

                Yeah, luckily the ECU doesn't particularly care what it's in. I have a '92 Volvo 960 Wagon with a 302 out of a '00 Explorer. Sounds like a neat project; it getting a T56 too I hope?
