    So here is my car pc. M350 case, Intel mobo, 2 gigs of ram with a 320GB NON SSD HD with a CPU fan and a case fan, located in the front of the case. It is mounted upside down in my glovebox

    When the glovebox is closed, Speedfan shows ambient temps of 50 degrees inside the case. The front case fan has helped but as you can see, there isn't a whole lot of space the hot air can escape where the cable entry hole is. My questions is, how would you guys suggest I move the air around in the box? I sometimes roll with the glovebox door open and that helps a lot, but not the prettiest way to do things. I don't want to cut holes on the bottom or sides because that would kind of defeat the purpose of having the glovebox in the first place. I wouldn't want things to fall out of place.

    Drill holes in the side of the glovebox and duct it to the passenger footwell. Or make a bigger hole in back to pipe fresh air in.

      you could also cover the holes you made with some thin strips of filter material-- primarily so that objects in the glove box don't make their way out unexpectedly, but as a added bonus of filtering the air as it gets pulled through the glove box..

        +1 great idea!

        Also, you probably want to turn it sideways so you can get some cross-flow instead of only putting the hole in the back

          Mine is not in the glovebox, (it's behind the lcd) but what I did was route air from the cold sectio[WIKI][/WIKI]n of the air conditioner with a section of vacuum cleaner hose and haven' t had a problem since.

              What is your guys take on the computer being mounted upside down?

              Also, which is better...pushing in cool air or sucking out hot air? I may drill a hole on the side and mount a fan to either blow or suck.

              No, I have not had problems with it being at 50c for extended periods of time...yet. I wanted to introduce some cooling so I don't push my luck.

                most car audio companies tell you not mount their amps upside down specifically because heat rises, and the inverted mounting would naturally allow the heat to collect near the devices that need to stay cooler...

                i kind of think that it is ok though, as long as you take the proper precautions-- ie vents and fans to make sure that the device doesn't cook--even something like a timer to keep the fans running for 'x' amount of time after the setup turns of..

                i believe that running something like a 75/25 percent mix of positive/negative fan ducting can lead to the best results-- this way, you can get less stagnant air because, while the positive(cold air) pressure fans are blowing more air in-- i haven't completely trusted that they can get hot air out by them selves-- so the negative air pressure fans are their to try to help vent the case better..

                the other reason that i like the 75/25 mix is so that you can be sure that there is enough cool air around, and you are not creating a slight vacuum in the system.(which could occur with a 50/50 mix)

                but all of this is mostly my own unproven theories-- honestly, getting any air at all to move in any direction is better then no air flow...

                  thanks for the suggestions. I put a 5" fan on the bottom of the glovebox, pushing in cool air. With the AC on in the car, it is sucking in cool air from the footwell. Speedfan temps went from 50c+ at the core to 31c. The case is actually cold to the touch. Major improvement. Never knew just moving air around would help that much.
