  • Paint stripping?

    Hi guys/gals
I am in the process of redoing the fab job on my Supra. I'll take out the PSOne and put a 7" in there. As you can see the pics in this thread http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...7&postcount=20

I'll be using one of the Metra kits 99-8151 for the Lexus IS300 or kit 99-5807 for Ford Mustang as done by blk02si. The dash kit will form the openning for the double DIN, and the LCD frame will be epoxy to the kit leaving the lower portion for the DIN radio.

I need to take off the existing paint, bondo hair/filler. What is the best method to do it? Acceton, pain thinner, sanding and more sanding?

I still have some SEM flexible bumper repair material (left over from the Matrix fab) to use to fill any gaps and such.

Hey Matrix. I hope I'm reading you right. You want to break down the fab work on your car's bezel and be able to install a new metra kit so that you can fab a 7"? If that's right, have you considered buying a new, untouched dash bezel from a salvage yard to save yourself the effort? There isn't much short of sanding your arm to the bone that will remove that stuff if you bonded right. Most chemical strippers strong enough will probably eat up all of your plastic. (Like real strippers ). Don't be surprised if you can find that bezel in a yard for like $10.
Its not the cards you're dealt, its how you play the hand!

Yup that is what I am trying to do.
In fact I have 2 bezels in my garage. The reason I don't use them because they are structurelly unsound (cuz of some dump guy trying to rip it off the car in the junkyard instead of trying to pop it out) if I put the screen on either one of them.
I want to work on the existing first and if that too much time consumming, I will use the other one. Also, the bezel material is a little challenge to work with (rubber instead of plastic). I know I will screw up one of them so may as well screw up the one already screw. :rolf:

Matrix if you do decide to get another bezel try the supra forums. I bought an extra one off someone there for like $10 shipped. Couldn't beat it compared to ebay selling them for $30+.
