I was wondering if you can use styrofoam as a mold for fiberglassing. Or will the glass chemically react with the the foam

Forum member "GoHybrid" is the master of foam. I would search around his posts.

yes you can but you need to ge the right stuff.
polyester fiberglass works with different foams than epoxy fiberglass.
temp considderations are also required..fiberglass gets waaay hot
i'v done fiberglass over bondo over foam... it worked well..much cooler temps.
      no detailed products tho

also you can use a good coat of interior latex paint over the styrofoam to act as a barrier layer before applying fiberglass or bondo. Bondo is really much easier to work with if the substrate is harder than the bondo itself... otherwise you'll likely get cracking and/or deformation of your pattern.

the foam wont react to interior latex paint but if you put a couple coats on i wouldnt see why the foam would break down to epoxy resin.. juse use a small piece of foam and some paint and make a test subject out of it.. test the paint with a couple layers with some epoxy resin you will find out shortly

            some foams "chemically" dont match.
they will evaporate due to one eating the other...not allways temp.
there is polyester foam available as well as epoxy
get it from a boat shop

it will expand after mixing th 2 parts
            its pretty good for "carving"

it conforms well to a hacked up bumper (if you like the port shapes etc)

then you can grab ports fromoem stuff and other things laying arround.
line them up nice (in a big long box)
coat in mold release, fill with expanding foam as per directions
            do a bit of carving
cover the whole thing in a layer of FG

you now have a MOLD!!!! make a few bumpers...get your money back maybe?
or a neat-0 console ready to mass produce??!!!??!?!?!?!
