  • 8" lilliput in 03 BMW e46

Heres my progress so far....really rough still in this pic ill try uploading more build pics when i feel like messing with it but u can see how its gona look here

When i finish the build im considering making a mold for it to sell. I realize there is a 7" kit already available on here so i figured there may be more people like me that want the largest size they can get in the factory location. Let me know if there is any intrest.

As far as i know this will work with only the lilliput 889GL-80NP.

      8" Bezel

Woah, so far so good!! You'll have to let us know if you're happy with that particular monitor (specs seem a bit on the low side for brightness and contrast), and how the bezel turns out. I may just be interested in one shortly

Some more pix... and a space navigator molded into the factory cup holder location....stole that idea from somebody on here. yeah i know the grey is not a dead-on match but its nearly impossible to match grey without having custom mixed colors. I will definately let you know how the screen is... Im a little worried about glare but i do have 20% tint all the way around so i think it will be ok...may do another layer on rear window if its an issue.

Well, that cupholder is looking good regardless! How do you make something like that? I'm dying to do one myself.

Looking forward to hearing back about how you like your screen too. By the way, have you considered selling your mold to the guy at MyBimmer.net. Bet he'd snatch that up from you and start mass-producing them.

to be honest i have no idea what all it can do. Im still yet to get my operating system and get the computer going. Ive just been workin on the install for now. from what i understand it can be programmed to do different functions so maybe it can be used as a mouse. i just wanted it to use for volume and track selection...stuff like that. having a mouse isnt that big of a deal to me since its a touchscreen anyway.

I have one too, but I feel like a lot of times it is annoying to use. Especially for situations like scrolling a song list. Thanks for showing this. Definitely getting one now.

Since I'm programming my own front end I'm just going to program it around this little guy. I'll probably write a little application that lets it go into a sort of mouse mode too.

Rich hand makes those bezels, they are not mass produced, so I doubt he will be interested in a mould.

                        8" e46 Double-DIN Bezel

Sorry, wasn't implying that they weren't high-quality, but if he's turning out more than one, that sounds like 'mass'-'producing' to me, lol!!

Anyways, I was only hoping that maybe Rich could apply his quality craftsmanship to a new design that has been found. I know it would only help his pockets to be selling as many as possible, and I think he'd get a lot of support for 8" displays now!

By the way, any idea how often Rich checks his e-mails?

                        Thanks all!

No idea, when I was dealing with him over the E36 one he was very good, but then I was the Guinea Pig for it. The pictures on his website and MP3Car's are of my mine.

Thing is because he makes them himself by hand he probably already has too many orders to handle and It's probably not profitable enough to be making too many.

Thanks man. i cut a piece of 1/8'' hard board to fit the cupholder ring. then cut out the hole for the space nav. Then hot glued it in place to hold it till i could apply kitty hair which is fiberglass reinforced body filler. its strong and flexible. Then sanded it down even and went back with a coat of regular lightweight body filler. then sanded it down with 100,220. then shot it with a coat of feather fill and final sanded that with 220. Then i shot it with a light texture spay by sem and a dye coat by sem to get the grey as close as possible. thats pretty much it minus serious details.

I doubt i would sell the screen mold to him to mass produce. I was just thinking i might make a mold of mine and cast some replicas to sell myself to anyone intrested.

Also, I would think that the cast would actually be of higher quality than the original since it would be a solid piece...not body filler plastic...etc. the idea of the prototype is to get the shape just right, the cast would provide every benefit and be one solid material. Making every one by hand would take a lot of time if you were trying to sell more than one. you would be doing all the work everytime when you could do it right once then cast off it. Im sure there will be people disagree with me on this but nearly everything you own is a cast.... so think about it.
