  • Redoing vinyl on door panels (E36)

So I'm looking to redo my dove grey door panels in black pleather, but I'm not sure what material to use or how to wrap it really. I think the panels will be easy, but I'm interested in learning how to large pieces with curves (dash, center console). Do I need to use a heat gun? I was wondering if there was a guide on this anywhere...just like general tips.

My door panel looks like this except, gray:

Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try and look for "vinyl upholstery tutorial" or "vinyl upholstery instructions".

One thing you might consider is spray coloring for vinyl. Instead of re-wrapping it, how about "painting" it?

I've seen good and bad results from the vinyl dye. As with everything else, it's all in the prep work.
Play with it, 'til it's broke.

I've looked into SEM and VHT, and I think I'll pass on those due to the durability issues.

Also, I want to cover my dash which is a hard plastic, and apparently neither of those two products leave a permanent finish.

Do they sell the vinyl at a place like Joann?

Yes, I've gotten vinyl there, and they had several thicknesses of the foam padding you'll want to use.
