    Hey guys and girls,

Long time lurker, first time poster!! I drive a basic model 1996-model (OBD-2-equipped) Honda Integra GSi (No VTEC), and have decided to build a Carputer

To start with, the Aux jack on my Clarion stereo has died (I accidentally pushed my knee into it), and I don't really want to buy a head unit yet, as they're not as flexible of a carputer.

While the Integra has space for a double-DIN head unit, it's way too low for practical use.

However, the HVAC and demister/hazard controls are about the same height and width of the stock double-DIN hole. This means, in theory, I could shift those controls downwards. Here's my concept (beware, I fail at Photoshop).

What does everyone think of my ideas?

I don't know what sort of computer to use yet, but as a daily laptop user, I would like to have a provision in the glovebox so I can easily use my own laptop in the car, and take it out for uni studies (when I start next year), and I am also tempted in the USB powered 7" screens.

    What does everyone think?
    Thank You

    this is a good start:

you would really need to take a look inside the dash and double check that you have enough cabling, but this is a pretty common mod on 95+ mustangs..

i do not recommend a usb screen for a single screen install-- these screens will not show anything until the usb driver is loaded--after the system boots.. which could be a problem if you have a issue with a file before the computer fully boots

Is there any way to have a removable laptop, rather than have a computer permanently installed? It would be better for when I go to University, and there would probably be less of a chance of a break-in (by hiding the screen with a fake stereo faceplate - I've seen a few of these on the forum).

there have been many laptop, tablet, even ipad installs for similar reasons that you have.

i prefer permanently-mounted solutions, so i can't help much when it comes to all of the laptop stuff, so you will need to check the laptop section for more info

as long as your laptop has a vga output(most do) then you should not have a problem setting up a in-dash screen to control it.

or, if you have a tablet, you could have a install similar to GizmoQ's tablet installs-- he has multiple cars, and one tablet pc that he swaps between them..
