  • Plexi / Acrylic Woes

Im going to be mounting my car pc in the floor of my van in the back

ive already fabricated a box 2" deep 15" wide and 35" long.
I originally planned on using .5 (half inch) plexi glass to accomplish this.
after doing some research i found that i have to buy a whole sheet 4'x 8' which would set me back 210-220 bux.

I could use two sheets of 1/4 inch but im not sure that will support the weight of someone nor am i even sure the half inch will. anyone fabricate something similar to this?? or have any suggestions?

use lexan or layers of it... it is almost bulletproof....it won't crack like plexi

maybe make some kind of support brace in the middle just to take some of the weight.

you want this just to hold itself up- probably
you ever gonna lean on it?

yea most likely from time to time someone may get in the back of the van so id say it may have to support up to 180 lbs or so my friends dont weight much and no fattie girls in the van lol

                      yea, its hildreth's, my bad
you want the glass and window shop, they have 2 shops one does auto and the other does reg. windows and such, it the shop on the right when you get there. give them a call first and make sure they have what you need. if they dont have it try calling some other glass and window shops, most places carry stuff on this size or are able to get sheets that big and wont rip you off(look under glass and window shops in your area if this is far from you, they just happent to be close to me and Ive used them before and was happy with what ive gotten from them)

go w/ the 1/2 inch acrylic, it will be more the strong enough(i have a 225 gal aquarium made of 1/2" and it will take a beating) acyrlic will be more resilient to impact hits where lexan may brake(im talking vibrations and such), also lexan always seemed to have an off yellow color to me, its also easier to get scratches out of acylic then lexan in my opionion.

The number for the glass shop is
                      928-1245

1/2 would be enough for sure.......they have many different colors. Scratch resistant, etc....

Looks like they may have moved offices, Yes this is the place. Port Jeff station and Mt Sinia are next to each other, the old location was on the border of the 2 town's,
