  • Where to buy plexi?

I am about to start building my case and I think I am going to go with plexi glass. Can anyone tell me where I should try to look to buy plexi?

There's a really good place down the road from me. Head east on Lougheed, then hang a right onto.... wait a sec...

Probably best for you to let us know where you're located.
Or, you can just check your local yellow pages for plexiglass/plastic distributors.

If you post a location, we can probably find someone good to deal with.

    Cheers,

Im in Mississippi (US), sorry, im not used to dealing with an "international" forum. The only other forum I use is all US. I wasnt looking for specific places, just a general idea. I know home doepot and lowes sell lucite which is basically lexan, but I would rather have plexi. Would glass shops probably carry it?

Modern Plastics is where I would go. Lexan Polycarbonate is better than plexiglas because it is more scratch resistant and much more shatter proof.

              This might help.
Not sure what city you're in, but here's a listing in Mississippi of a bunch of plastics companies. Most of them should carry Plexiglas™ (acrylic sheets, or polymethyl methacrylate)

No one knows everything ab0out everywhere but I can say this. When I was in college as an art student I found it AWESOME there was a glass place in town, 20 ft from my house.

Anyway a glass place that cuts glass in house (though doesnt make it on site of course) has plexi and acrylic too. PLus unlike homedepot etc, its not just for windows and is 10x cheaper than buying from a chain.

Find a local glass place, call and ask for plastics and then get a price quote and go pick it up.

24x24 1/2" sheet cost me like $16 or less i remember

Well, went to Lowes yesterday. They only had the thin stuff (mebe 1/4" tops). I was looking for 3/8" they said I'd have to special order it, get it in a 3'x6' sheet and it'd cost ~$200 ?!?! They also said they wouldn't cut it and neither would the shipper.

They DID suggest I check a local glass shop. I work when they're open though... gonna have to play hookie...

Check out McMaster Carr. I've ordered from them before and found their service to be top-notch; I ordered something on a Tuesday afternoon and got it in my mailbox on Thursday.
A quick search showed that they have 0.394" thick acrylic at 18"x18" for ~$16.
Old plans out the window because of an accident .
