  • 15" Monitor location

First post here... I'm wondering where in my 98 dodge ram I can fit a 15" ctx lcd monitor. I built a center console between the dash and my center seat (which has a jl 12" sub in it). There is plenty of room in the console. I would just mold it in, but I want it to be high enough for the rear passengers to see it, and I don't want it to totally block off my dash (cd player, ac vents, etc.). What I was thinking about doing is build a case for the lcd monitor, put it on tracks, and use a linear actuator so that it is normally in the console, but when i push a button, it rises up out of the console to be visible. This will also keep it hidden from thieves when I'm parked. What do yall think about this? Also, do you think antenna motors (maybe 2) would be able to raise the monitor out of the console, or should I use worm gears with a track, or what? I'm worried about a linear actuator being able to fit between the monitor and the floorboard when the monitor is hidden. Thanks, guys!

So you expect us to automagically know what the dash of a 98 Dodge Ram looks like? You expect us to be psychic and read your mind to extract an image of what your custom console looks like as well?
Some pics would help anyone who cares to assist you.

Frankly, I don't care to assist you. It's your ride, so you figure out where to put it.

You haven't seen me flip out, dude. I'm being very chill.
Trust me, there's a lot of people on this forum that consider me a flaming *******. They're probably right, too. It would be patently obvious if I was flipping out.

Also, there's no need to censor the word '****'. It's allowed.

My help is to recommend you include some pics of your dash and/or console so the people who are willing to help you can. Perhaps perusing the Show Off Your Project forum might generate some ideas, as well.

I don't help people figure out where to locate **** in their own rides. Conversely, I don't ask for help where to locate stuff in my ride, either. It's my ride, so I'll make the calls and take all the responsibility if it doesn't work out.

well thanks for posting, but i'm asking for people to post who want to help me figure out how to install the monitor.

also, not all the questions require that you know about my console:

do you think antenna motors (maybe 2) would be able to raise the monitor out of the console, or should I use worm gears with a track, or what?

          Can you answer those questions?

I don't know about antenna motors. They might not have neough grunt to move a 15" monitor. Worm gears would work, I suppose.
Someone posted had a self-contained linear actuator for sale in the calssified forum. It might have had too short a stroke, though.

oh ok, gotcha. i think i saw the actuator, but i think it was only a 4" stroke. i'm thinking worm gears would work, but i might scratch the idea and just mold it into the dashboard (assuming I can make it look clean enough).
