  • BMW X3 Screen Location

Ok Im getting my bmw x3 tommorrow and considering doign a car computer. only thing is i dont know where to put it. that top storgae is out of the question b/c it too long of a stretch to use a touch screen and that middle area with all the controls is kinda iffy b/c i would then have to relocate the HVAC buttons.

That top area is not a storage area. It is the stock navi screen. It flips up like the G35's. U can either buy the kit for the G35 that the mp3carstore sells and retrofit it, or u can just buy a screen and pop it in there. Now, this is only if u get the X3 with navigation like the one in the picture, the X3 without navigation doesn't have that screen area up there, it's just a solid dash.....in that case u would have to find a different location to mount the screen, like where the stock HU is.......that's what i would do...build a custom bezel or find someone that makes one for ur car....good luck

      1) install a non-touchscreen up top. then install a touchpad in the console to control the mouse. pros: probably much brighter screen, easy to see, not having to mess up that beautiful dash.

      2) put it in front of the shifter, down low under the radio. a lot of people install their screens that way. pros: use of touchscreen, as well as others mentioned before.

      3) take a dremel to the center of the dash and install that sucker where we all know it should go. pros: feeling of accomplishment, best place for the screens, it puts hair on your balls.

here's some inspiration. i don't know this dude, but take a look.

thx for the insight freelander i found a site which sells the dash replacement prat for like 155 incase something should go wrong in i decide to dremel.

I just want to collect ideas before i jsut go off chopping stuff so if anyone else who see this has a good idea or has seen or done and x3 install plz let me kno.

as on now i dont think anyoneone here has done an x3 install but my searching skills might not be up to par.

i think that the radio is just a single din with a plate over it so i ight just take that radio out and put a flip up screen there and then put a HU on the bottom

          ooo
cant forget the radar dector which is gonna go in the top tray thing

lol. I like it too, although it's not a real BMW, as it's not made in Germany...

I say you should put the screen where th current HU is, and move the AC controls down. They look lik they should fit in the area bebeath them, with a bit of trimming.

Relocate the heated seats buttons panel lower, and move the ac controls where the heated seats panel was, and you'll have plenty of space for a 7" in there.
