  • SATA or ATA100

    can i use a ATA100 in this set up? http://www.short-circuit.com/categories/carpc.html i found a great deal on a drive but not sure if i can use it...

    No. Your MB takes EIDE (IDE) and not SATA.
    I believe ATA100 is the same as IDE. SATA is the new standard with ribbon cables that are only 1 cm (or so) wide.
    IDE aka PATA.

        If you use the Voom PC case that comes with that set I believe you can only use a notebook hdd. otherwise you'll have to mound the standard size drive outside the case.

          but if you're ok with pluging it OUTSIDE, most of the boards on those kits ALSO offer SATA connectors -- all except the MII 1200 (second one from the left). Check out the MB descriptions, it's all there.

            wait, its a 2.5 ATA100 drive. I can or cannot use it with that motherboard?

              If it's a 2.5 cm drive you can use it, but you'll need to get one of those 40 to 44 pin cables since you'll be connecting a notebook drive to standard IDE. Other than that you should be fine.
