  • Poll: Hard Drive mounted horizontally or vertically?

This topic is always a fun one to stir up some passionate debate. Answer the question, do you mount your hard drive vertically or horizontally? Also, if you desire, post how long you have had the drive in your setup and whether you use shock mounting or just bolt it to the car.

When I first saw the thread title, I was all ready for some bashing and link to debates!

      Anyways,

For 1 year 300Gb 3.5" drive horizontal mounting. Worked fine.

Switched to a more power hungry mobo/cpu combo from a via, so I switched the power hungry drive to a 2.5" drive.

For 3 months and still in there, 60Gb 2.5" drive horizontal.

Old setup : 6GB Hitachi 2.5" laptop hard drive mounted horizontally on rubber grommits for shock absortion. 6 years service without failure. Retired due to dead mobo (bad bios flash).
New setup : 8GB Seagate 1" compact flash hard drive mounted horizontally in mobo's CF socket, no shock absorbtion. 1 year service without failure.

That sounds like vertically to me.

I believe that yould be "vertically".

The orientation has to do with the platters being horizontal or vertical.

                Mine's horizontal.

                    Here we go

Horizontal, installed for more years than most (6+), in at least 4 vehicles one of which had a frame bending wreck.

No trouble with hardware at all.

Two 3.5 drives (20gb WD and 80gb maxtor) grounded and sitting on firm foam for 1 year. I tried it horizontal, but my music skipped on the big bumps. No problems now.
