  • Low Profile Push Button Switch

I'm looking for a low profile pushbutton switch to serve as the power on/off for my carpc. I currently have the following switch from Radio Shack installed:

    http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062501

However, I have the switch installed horizontally on my dash, and it sticks out quite a bit, and hence does not look very "stock". All of the switches I've found at Radio Shack stick out a lot.

Can anyone recommend another place to buy a lower profile switch? I want the switch to peak out as small as possible from the screw-in portion of the switch. Something in black is probably best too.

you could try a company like www.digikey.com they sell a bunch of electronic parts i'm not sure how expensive these things would be tho.

I personally like Bulgin switches. You can get them from a number of places but here is the first one doing a google search. You can find them cheaper than the link listed below, BTW.

I got mine from MountainMods. It's a silver pushbutton that when installed sits (very nearly) flush with the surface.

Can't remember what their webpage is tho

go for the bulgin switches, ther a lil expensive, but seriously awesome looking and very flush, low profile. But if you really want ultimate in low profile ou really want a tactile switch, those you could mold right flat lavel with some part of your car. I am thinking of molding a tactile system kill switch somewhere in the front of my dash and having it be very similar color to my dash color, that way you wouldnt even know its there. perfect kill switch, you dont even know its there

Good idea for a kill switch. A friend of mine modded his cig. lighter to be the switch. (this was back when cars came with cig lighters mind you. ) So, you had to push the lighter in to start the car and pull it out when you wanted to kill it. Hidden in plain sight.

I'm relocating my Sunroof switch to a spare location in my dash, anyways I have to mold the switch my self to get the function, look and feel OEM... I looked and looked and looked for something thta would work/fit, this was my only option

What kind of car do you have?

Usually, most vehicles have a blank spot where a factory switch for an option would go. If you have one of these, just source a factory switch and install it for you use.

I'm working on my 95 Eclipse, there is a spot for a factory button, this is what I am using to house my molded button, But I dont want it to look like some schmuck just through in any old switch/button. which is why I am completly re-making the switch/button and housing

what I was getting at is: get a switch that was meant to go there and install it.

                      good luck

I am using this switch - it sits practically flush to the surface and looks great against the aluminium centre console which i built!! I opened up the tablet PC which is the backbone to my Car PC and soldered this across the existing on/off switch - i can still use either switch. Push for on, push for off (courtesy of windows xp)
