  • i need a CHEAP new computer...read for details...

alright, so this covers about 3 different areas, so i guess i'll just put it in here.

i need to build or buy (very cheaply) a new/used computer that has:

    minimum
    500 mhz pentium
    128 mb ram
2 gb hard drive (enough for a win 2k or win xp install) i have software. i have a couple HDs lying around that i could use.

obvioiusly i need a floppy and a cd for install, but nothing good is required.

no requirements on video, so anything goes.
    no modem or network cards.
    no sound card needed.

    must have 2 serial ports.

basically, i need a stable computer to sit an run a program... hopefully without rebooting very often.

i dont need a monitor or anything else.

oh, and i want to spend less than $200.

    buy or build??
any specific suggestions on cheap components, mobo/cpu suggestions.

i need some quick input on this...

    thanks all

there are tons of p3 500mhz machines going for under $200 on ebay. your other option is something like this:

Car: 1999 Dark Green Mustang GT Coupe
Audio: Alpine HU, JL 6ch Amp, JL Stealthbox and XR series components.
Player: Empeg for now; something custom later.

I agree, buy a cheap debranded PC. Why go through the work unless you have all the components laying around.

well im looking at barebones packages on ebay, mostly with ram included, so i can grab all that i need in one shot.

          something like
          this
          or this

they are really overkill compared to what i need, but they are cheap.

i looked at compgeeks, but they dont have anything supercheap...
