  • Info needed about Ibase motherboard

I want to upgrade my CarPC and now I'm able to buy some 2nd hand hardware.

Main piece is a Ibase MB896 motherbord wich has a Intel P4 mobile 1,73Ghz already installed.

First question: Is this a good motherboard , and will it run better then my former VIA M10000.
Second question: Will a M2-ATX 160W be enough to power up the board, HDD, BT dongle, 4 different USB devices (touchscreen,HQCT radio,USB OBDII and a USB switch) and a 7"touchscreen?

My M1-ATX does this without any problem.

I wonder if this will be a good upgrade? main reason to do this, is that I want to be able to show AVI movies to the kids instead of converting them all to MPG, and also want more total speed.
System will 95% of the time wake up from hibernation , so boot up speed is not really a issue.

      Hope this will help you

        it looks so clean.
and did you used carpenter glue to hold them together?

            IBASE MB896 - Recommendation.

I have had the Ibase card running in my Red Vette for almost two years and it is a reliable work horse. The only problems that I have had is one hard drive developed bad sectors which is not the fault of the MB board. I have 1.4GHz Pentium M and went down to 512MB or memory from 1GB just to improve the wake from hibernation time. Going to a 5400 RPM drive also made a big difference.

Check out my web site for the details on my install.

Nice setup. The motherboard you mentioned will be a lot faster. The M2? Not sure...you will need to find out how many Watts the CPU draws...

And what about if I use the M2-ATX to power-up the board plus my touchscreen.
And use my former M1-ATX for the harddrive, both 7" screens on the back, and all the USB devices (radio, OBDII reader, GPS ) and case fans.

                Will this work?

Sure. Just pay attention to wiring.

I was thinking about splitting the cables comming form the battery to provide both supplies from power.
And of course also the ignition line. I just want both power supplies to start at the same time.
Thinking about this, best thing to do is to make sure that board and HD are on the M2-ATX.
That way the system will always start without any problem

The ignition wire will signal the PSUs to start up so if you splice that you should be OK. Pay attention to proper wiring techniques and proper gauge.
