  • IDE to Mini IDE Question - Help Please

I need help identifying the correct installation of my harddrive. The IDE cable I have 44 pin to 40 pin can plug in either direction. I know from experience that the wrong way frys the harddrive. Can someone please identify the right way? I cant afford to fry another harddrive.

    Option A

    Option B

Do you have a pin-out diagram for the motherboard and for the drive? If not I would strongly suggest you get those docs.

Check the adapter very carefully. It usually will say which is up and down. from experience with the top of the hard drive facing up and the 4 pins that are kind of seperated and not used to the right of the drive with the pins facing you. The power adapter should go to the left. Here is a picture of mine.

Sorry for the blurry images, but I do not know how to turn on the Macros feature on my phone....

Yes, The problem is the cable doesn't, which allows it to plug in either way. The harddrive is Hitachi, bought it here.

Does the cable have a little red line down one side? That usually indicates Pin1. Check the drive for a little "1" printed on either side of the connector.

Learn something new every day. Yes it does have a red line. Thanks for the input.
