  • Visteon HDZ300 problems?

I've had my HD radio installed for a few months now. Besides have bad reception, which I'm working on (Got the metal case for the PSU), lately all I get is static for about 10 minutes, then the stations slowly start coming in. I starting to think I got a defective unit, or maybe this is why they are $40 on eBay. I know it isnt the antenna. Anyone else having or had this problem?

Soooo, I take this as a no. Guess I'll trash the cheap HD and get another solution for FM radio.

I'm still suggesting the power antennae thing. I had TERRIBLE reception on my previous radio setup with the stock antennae. Then put 12v on that blue wire and WOW. It said in the book that the blue wire was for "power antennae" and I was like, well, I don't have one that goes up and down, so that can't be it. But realized after looking at a schematic for the wiring, that it means amplified antennae. After hooking it up (the head unit powered it before which is why it died when the head unit was removed), the Visteon had better reception than my head unit or any other radio I've used. It blew the HQCT away.

So before you give up, please put a DVM on the blue wire in your harness and see if it has 12v.

Do you have like a $30 radio shark you could check that out with (stick the antenna connector in the hole)? If it is the Visteon, then you definitely have a bad one. I can get Dallas from Houston on mine. I got mine for like $50 on e-bay, so they aren't ALL bad.
      My opinion is my own.

I stand corrected. On the Vibe, it appears it's a black wire.....and it looks like there are 2 of them. One for the amp and one for the antennae.

          Another idea.....
Is there anyone near you that also has HD? If so, swap them and see if it really is the Radio. You also could probably find people here (me included) that would be happy to test your Visteon against their own. Would keep you from spending twice.

No, I'm all by myself around here that I know of. But, isnt the black wire ground?? This is confusing.

Where did you get that wiring list?? I dont think thats even close. Is that the 'moon and tunes' radio?

That's what I thought. Would scare the hell out of me putting voltage to a black wire. Might do some research and see if there is more info on that.

Ok, this is messed up. I just looked at the wires at the cars connector and they are like what you posted. But, the two black wires, AMP and ANT power, are connected.

Now, the plug I have for the radio/speakers that plugs into the factory plug has a bluw/white wire thats amp turn on. Actually, NONE of the colors match on either plugs to one another.

Connected? To what, a head unit? If so, is your head unit on and set to radio when the Visteon is on? I'm guessing that if you are using a head unit, you have to be in Aux when the computer is running, thus turning off the antenna. This is scary, but you might try hooking 12v ignition directly to that antenna. That's what I had to do. The scary part is the "black wire" thing. lol

I have no head unit. The HD radio is my HU.

I dont think the ant. is the problem, because I had a Alpine HU hooked up before I installed the computer and HD unit and had NO problem with reception.

Also, remember before I had bad reception....now it's non existent until the radios been on for a little while, and one station is 2 blocks away from my house.

Thats because the Alpine turns the antenna on and off. And it only turns it on when set to radio (aftermarket might just be on/off). If you have no head unit now, there is nothing to power the antenna. No trigger.

I'm not saying it is your problem, but I went through some serious headaches, worries, bought 3 different kinds of radios, and almost ripped my interior out to replace my "broken" antenna wire. Fortunately, when I went to find the cabling, it showed the power module. THEN I knew what that funny wire all by itself was (kinda tied to the antenna plug)!

Oh crap......I know what you should do......you have another car, right? That Visteon is stand alone......hook it up in another car, then have the audio out go into a headset....THAT will tell you if it's the antenna or not!

Finally!!! Someone else with this problem. I think it's time to find alternate radio options.

Well, I run both the Visteon and a $200 HQCT and the Visteon blows it away on reception and sound (using the same antenna). Just my opinion, but I would continue to persue this issue.
