  • Pioneer F series

Pioneer has series of 2-Din head units that are CE based and support standards like USB, SD cards, Bluetooth, 800x480 etc. They have been cracked to the point of a full CE desktop.

Since these units are so much cheaper than the existing all-in-one car PC solutions, it might be worthwhile to consider either:

    1) Could existing frontends be ported to the CE platform

    2) Could a nano x86 board be interfaced to the existing peripherals in this unit.

Here is a link to images of what the hardware looks like:

couldn't see any pics, maybe you need to be registered.

    Interesting thoughts, although.
TruckPC - gutted, being used for test setup
BoatPC - All in 1 in cuddy, N7 using VNC on dash, RR
    BlazerPC - Nexus 7 with Timur's USBROM

I really thought there would be some interest in this. I am currently trying to get an RDP client installed on this unit and try to get a remote desktop from a PC, it has a full 800x480 resolution.

This could be pretty interesting since the hardware is reasonably priced compared to some of the new units that are available. If I could spend the $700 on the Pioneer unit then add a few things it would still end up costing half of what's out there now. And, it would have a very nice looking installed product.

Where are the links for people "adjusting" the device to get the CE frontend?

Very simple, just put these files on an CD card, put it in the slot on the front and turn the unit on. This will get you to a full CE interface. It is very stripped down though with only the basics.

Yes! There has been a lot of progress on this including Tom Tom, iGo8, and an audio player. C'mon guys, lets get some cooperation going here, this could be a very cost effective solution. The F 500 can be bought for 400 to 450 bucks and is about the size of a 7" monitor but is a complete system with bluetooth.
