  • What's wrong with my MB?

So, I've got my carputer powered up but I am not getting a video signal. I've tried hooking it up to my lilliput as well as the monitor that I'm using on my desktop and I get nothing. I've tried connecting both monitors to my laptop and they show up right away so it's not the monitors. Any ideas on what I can try? I'm hoping that it's not the board! I'm using an Intel D945GCLF2 with an on board dual core Atom. Is there something simple I'm missing or do I need to send back the board? Thanks in advance!

What PSU are you using? Have you connected the standard 20pin ATX connector as well as the 4pin cable?
I installed my carpc into my pet Kangaroo, mate.

I should have posted a little bit more info! I'm using an M3-ATX power supply that is connected to the MB, and a molex to 4 pin power cable that it also attached to the MB. Everything on the MB looks like it's powered up. Both fans are running, my hard drive feels like it's humming. I also have a CF card attached to a CF to IDE adapter and that's lighting up correctly. Just no video...

So you get no POST beeps or anything? Do you have a speaker wired to the speaker header (usually by the front panel header or on it)? I have had 1 AMD computer do no beeps, no video, but an audio message through the speaker, so now I suggest it!

My guess is faulty or incompatible RAM or CPU. Do you have swapple parts?

Is it booting up, or just not POSTing??

As soon as you said M3 (or M2 or M4!), I would suggest trying to power it up using a regular AC-ATX PSU, see what happens...

Got it! Apparently I had bad ram. Switched it out for a stick of ram that was in my desktop and BAM! It's up and running! Thanks for your help!

This is usually a huge issue. Back in the days old MoBos would tell you the RAM was missing or bad, now adays though the PC will simply not boot. I had the same issue, I RMAed the MoBo, that didnt work, I RMAed the processor, that didnt work. I then tried using one or the other RAM, that didnt work. So I went to TigerDirect and saw that SODIMM RAM was super cheap. For a 2GB stick it was $20.00 dollars, so I bought 2. The system came alive right away. The two $h!tty RAM sticks that blew out were from Corsair, I will never buy from them again.

PS: I have a speaker on my MoBo and it does not beep with bad RAM.

Ya, usually it's either the ram that is not correctly inserted or the motherboard that is already damaged.. try listening to your POSTs, it'll help you diagnose the problem
