  • What TV tuner card are you using to record TV shows?

I've done some research and still can't decide what one I want. I want to use it to record music videos from MTV, cartoons for my daughter, and any other misc. stuff from TV. I have DirecTV so if any of you have a card with s-video in I'd like your opinions on the quality using that too.

I use an ATI TV Wonder. It's probably a good card, but is a complete POS if your machine is not 100% compatible (as mine isn't....it doesn't like my Matrox Millennium video card).

I have my ATI 8500 all in wonder as my agp (not pci) car and I love it. I don't know how I did it without it . It has a remote control that you can use it from a different room, It has 128 mb memory s-video and other great stuff. I usually record my shows in video cd quality but I watch them in my TV (That is connected to my computer) because video cd quality is not good enough for VGA but its great for s-video or RCA. You can also record in DVD (between others) quality but takes a lot of space in your harddrive and sometimes is sloppy when fastforward because DVD quality needs of a lot of resources. My machine is a 1gig athlon processor with 384 of RAM. I had to buy a second hardrive for all my shows now I have a 40g for my files and a 80g for my shows. It is a great card. I also use my computer as my DVD player and works great. If you have the money you should go for the new ATI 9500. Good luck!!

Heh, thats putting it midly. I'd have said it bites ***. I had a TV wonder for about a week and a half before returning it. Windows2000 had been out for over a year when I purchased the card, and it was still shipping with beta software, and had beta fixes on its site to make all the neat software work. If you want TV capture, your smoothest route for an ati card would be an all in wonder, or a haupage card might work. I just gave up on the whole thing and got a Viewsonic VB50HRTV external tuner, because all I really wanted to do was to watch tv on my monitor, not capture.
