  • Lowest power consumption and heat- Mini ATX

    Hi All,

I have a project involving remotely deploying scientific equipment to record various environmental information. I am thinking of using many mini atx computers to collect the data remotely (running them off of 2 6V deep cycle batteries). However, I am having trouble locating specific power specs for the various boards. My main concern is how much power will it consume, and how hot does the board get. Since these will be deployed outside, it will be in a waterproof case, so heat may be an issue. Noise is also an issue, so a fanless motherboard is a must. I am also not concerned with video options or other fancy things, just a basic inexpensive motherboard that is very low on power consumption. I did look at a few that looked promising, but without specs for a lot of other boards out there it is hard to make an informed decision. So, that said, any recommendations ??? Thanks!!

Do you mean miniITX or microATX? There is no miniATX formfactor that I'm aware of.

And if you don't need a lot of computing power, I think an M10000 would be sufficient, low-power and low-heat.
It's not the zippiest PC in the world, but it would do the job and be reasonably inexpensive, I'd think.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

I did some checking around and some reviews I read said the VIA EPIA M10000G Nehemiah Mini-ITX Mainboard ran hot due to the C3 processor. Anyone have experience with this board? I also have looked at the following pasted below, but other than "low power and heat", but without knowing any kind of spec is making the decision harder. If anyone has insight on any of these (or others) would be nice to know the ins and outs, I don't car about speed, just power and heat!

        EPIA CN 10000EG
        EPIA ME 6000G
        EPIA LT 10000EAG
        EPIA ML6000EAG
        MSI LX800
        Intel D945GSEJT
